An agent identity is one connection’s own identity under your Sigil. Every connection gets one: each chat assistant, each coding agent, and the CLI. Two agents acting for you are never the same agent. Each proves it belongs to you, and each can be told apart from the others.

What it guarantees

  • One identity per connection. Connecting Claude and ChatGPT gives you two agent identities, not one shared one.
  • Agents can’t see each other. A connected agent can read its own identity. It can’t list or inspect any other agent you have connected.
  • Only you can disconnect an agent. Disconnecting stops that connection being honoured, so the agent can’t act for you any more. An agent can’t disconnect itself or another agent.
  • Disconnecting one leaves the rest alone. Your other agents, and your Sigil, are unaffected.

Agents and mandates

A Stamped Mandate is what lets an agent act. An agent asks for a mandate and you approve it. Your mandates belong to you, not to the agent that asked, so check what’s already in place before you approve a new one. Disconnecting an agent stops it acting, but it doesn’t revoke the mandates it asked for. Those stay valid until they expire or you revoke them, so revoke them separately.
